Just because your brakes aren’t squeaking doesn’t mean you have plenty of brake life left. Here are a few symptoms to watch out for that might indicate your brakes are ready to be changed.
Vibration. If your brake pedal vibrates when you try to stop this might be an indication that your brakes are ready to be repaired.
Longer stop time. If you press on the brake pedal and it seems to take longer to stop, your brake pads are likely at the end of their life.
Soft brake pedal. Similar to the previous symptom, if you begin to brake and notice there is little resistance in the brake pedal. Make sure to have your brakes evaluated ASAP.
Pulling to one side. If you brake and your vehicle is pulling to one side, your brake pads are likely wearing unevenly and it’s important to have this looked at to not only repair the brake pads but to look into what would cause that issue.
Grinding. If you hear grinding when you braking, your brake pads are likely at 0% which means you need to stop driving it and repair asap.
Typically, brakes are gonna last 25,000-75,000 miles dependent on the driver and conditions. But it’s important to be aware of these symptoms to make sure your vehicle is properly maintained and prevent larger more costly repairs.
